### The holidays might not be top of mind yet for most consumers, but brands and retailers know that planning for these make-or-break moments starts early. This year, early means now.

Many major big box retailers, including Best Buy, Target and Walmart, will close their doors to shoppers on Thanksgiving Day, marking a profound change in the Black Friday shopping tradition and reflecting the consumer shift to e-commerce.

With stores closed, Black Friday shoppers will look online to avoid missing out on promotions, which will start earlier in the season than ever without the constraints of in-store merchandising. And this year, there’s more money to be spent than ever before.

Research firm eMarketer [forecasts](https://www.emarketer.com/content/how-retailers-start-planning-2021-holiday-season) that holiday e-commerce sales will rise 11.3 percent to **$206.88 billion**, accounting for a record 18.9 percent of the total holiday retail sales, and both Black Friday and Cyber Monday are expected to surpass $10 billion in e-commerce sales.

The time to prepare for the largest and longest peak season ever is now, and Flowspace is here to help.
